Mercyhurst Art Education Club
Mission, Activities, and Fundraising October 12, 2009 Mission Statement: To promote the strong leadership, positive advancement, and professional development
of future art educators around the world. What does National Student Chapter do for me?
National Student Chapter:
Coordinates a variety of sessions and events specifically for students at annual NAEA conventions
Communicates important information to student members through monthly E-bulletins, the NAEA News, our website, mailings, and other means
Provides opportunities for growth and advancement to student members
Supplies timely job openings to student members
Provides the opportunity for student leaders to hone their skills at the national level as either President or Student Outreach Coordinators
Nourishes an environment for students to share experiences and ideas
Encourages camaraderie and friendships among art education students
Increases communication between local student chapters
Increases the visibility of students within the art education community
Advances the understanding and scope of future art educators
Promotes an exchange of ideas between the art education arena and other disciplines
We have also been involved with charity projects which benefit the community: -Empty Bowls
Event done with Social Work Club
We throw ceramic bowls or pots, sell tickets for $15 for a ceramic bowl and all you can eat soup from local restaurants
Art auction with works from students and local artists
Raised over $6,000 for the Second Harvest food bank two years ago and last year we raised even more
-Volunteering at the Children’s Art Fair
Brief art activities with students from the Erie area
-Love Luggage
-Chalk Walk
-Christmas on Campus
-Volunteered at Barber National Institute at Autism Art Show:
Exhibited art created by children and adults with or affected by autism
The club has also done some fundraising so that we are able to go to state conferences and national conventions. -Many art ed. students have presented and won awards at these events
-We went to New York City in 2007 for the national convention
-We went to Scranton, PA last October for the state conference
-We will be going to Harrisburg this October for the state conference
-Looks fantastic on a resume!
-Get lots of free art supplies!
Fundraising/MRAP: -Sold jewelry, t-shirts, scarves and artwork all made by members of the club
-MRAP:
Raises money to send to suffering art education programs in schools around the country.
